Is Systemic Psychotherapy right for me?
Systemic Psychotherapy is a framework where the difficulties people experience in life is seen in the context of relationship rather than perceived intra-psychically. Systemic Psychotherapy works relationally paying attention to here and now and trying to understand the person’s difficulties in the context of their close relationship. Systemic Psychotherapy framework can be used to work with individuals, couples or families.
What is the difference between a Clinical Psychologist, a Psychiatrist, and a Psychotherapist in mental health
A psychiatrist is a medical doctor (MD or DO) specializing in psychiatry. This is a, branch of medicine focused on diagnosing, treating, and managing mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders, including the ability to prescribe medication.
A clinical psychologist is a mental health professional specializing in diagnosing, assessing, and treating psychological disorders and mental health problems. They often use psychotherapy and other therapeutic interventions but cannot prescribe medical solutions.
A psychotherapist is a mental health professional who uses various therapeutic techniques, primarily “talk therapy,” to help individuals understand and address emotional, behavioral, and mental health issues.
Psychotherapists will have been trained and certified to a Master degree level and clinical training is part of the process of attaining the qualification and be eligible to register with the United Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP)
Holding a doctorate is not a requisite to practice in this country but enables the clinician to research and follow their clinical interests and offer insight to an area of clinical practice which has been researched.
